Maintenance Precautions for Lead-acid Batteries of Electric Vehicles

The battery is one of the key components of an electric vehicle, so it requires regular maintenance to ensure its performance and longevity. The following are the maintenance precautions for lead-acid batteries summarized by Hulk Vehicle. We hope they can help you.
Keep clean and dry
Please check the battery surface, connecting wires and bolts regularly to keep the surface clean and dry. If there is electrolyte, wipe it off with cotton gauze, then rinse it with clean water and dry it (Note: During the cleaning process, tap water is strictly prohibited from entering the battery.) to avoid leakage and increased self-discharge, which may cause random failures in vehicle operation.
Keep well connected
Please always check whether the fastening nut of the battery cable is loose. The battery connection must be kept good to avoid problems such as sparks or burnt poles.
Avoid placing conductive items
Please note that no metal conductive objects are allowed to be placed on the battery cover to avoid short circuit and burning the battery.
Charging in time
After the battery is discharged (regardless of vehicle driving time and mileage), it must be charged on the same day. Charging every other day or after 24 hours is not allowed, otherwise the battery life will be affected.
Regularly check the electrolyte
During the use of the battery, due to the electrolysis and evaporation of water in the electrolyte, the density will increase and the liquid level will decrease (especially in summer), so it should be checked frequently and distilled water should be added (water shortage will seriously affect the service life of the battery). The electrolyte level in the battery should be equal to the maximum level line "max". (Note: Adding water should be done at the end of charging. After adding water, charging should continue for 0.5-1 hour to make the electrolyte internally uniform.)
Prevent impurities from entering
No impurities are allowed to fall into the battery. The utensils used for adding distilled water should be kept clean to avoid mixing other impurities. If impurities are brought into the battery, the service life of the battery will be affected.
Monitor battery status
While driving, the driver should observe the instructions of the battery instrument at any time (when the voltmeter pointer on the instrument panel drops to 40V, the vehicle must stop running and charge in time), and estimate the mileage that the electric vehicle can continue to drive, so as to avoid the vehicle being unable to return to charging in time, causing excessive discharge of the battery and shortening its service life.
Park with full power
If the vehicle is not used for a long time, it should be fully charged before parking, and a balanced charge should be made every 15 days. After charging, close the liquid filling cap tightly and check whether the ventilation holes are blocked. If so, they should be unclogged in time.
Replace the battery promptly
The service life of lead-acid batteries is generally 1-1.5 years. At that time, the capacity of the battery will drop sharply. Then it is necessary to replace the battery with a new one. Remember to use battery packs of the same brand, same capacity, and similar conditions (the difference in maximum voltage does not exceed 0.1v after fully charged).
The above are the maintenance precautions of lead-acid batteries summarized by Hulk Vehicle. Through regular maintenance, the life of the battery can be extended and the stable performance and safe operation of the vehicle can be ensured.
